New route will fly between Vancouver, Canada and Liberia, Costa Rica

  • Sunwing will fly to the country for the first time with a Boeing 737 MAX 8, boasting a capacity of 189 passengers at maximum occupancy.
  •  Starting on December 23 of this year, Sunwing will begin operations from Daniel Oduber International Airport to Vancouver, Canada

On June 11, Sunwing announced that starting on December 23 of this year until March 31, 2019, it will fly to Liberia, Guanacaste in a Boeing 737 MAX 8. It will be the only operator to offer a direct route from Vancouver.

As part of the negotiations held by the Costa Rican Tourism Board, Sunwing announced that it will broaden its operations to include Costa Rica. This is the second flight announced for the province of Guanacaste under the present administration, with both flights originating in North America.

“I am so happy to have so much good news in so little time, since one of the commitments I have taken on during my term is to strengthen tourism from Mexico, the United States and Canada, markets that are vitally important for Costa Rica because of our affinity and proximity. We will continue working to significantly increase the development of both international airports from those destinations, alongside the growth in the European market”, said Maria Amalia Revelo, Minister of Tourism.

The itinerary of the flights will be as follows:

Flight number: WG128

  • Leaves: Sunday, December 23, 6:00 a.m.
  • Arrives: Sunday, December 23, 3:10 p.m.

Andrew Dawson, President of Tour Operations for Sunwing, noted “we are very happy to be showcasing Costa Rica as a destination for next winter. In addition to being famous for its ecotourism and adventures, this popular destination also stands out for the quality of its lodging and its people”.

The arrival of this new route to Daniel Oduber International Airport will give tourists the opportunity to enter through Guanacaste to some of the preferred destinations for North American markets.

“At CORIPORT, we are celebrating the new flight from Sunwing from Vancouver to Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia. We have been working side-by-side with the authorities to offer modern, innovative, climate controlled and safe facilities. The expansion of the facilities and the growth in the number of flights gives us an optimistic outlook for the entire region”, enthused César Jaramillo, General Manager of CORIPORT, the Liberia airport authority.
