Liberia Airport expansion will serve 300,000 additional passengers each year
- Operator carried out the expansion in a proactive manner, forecasting future growth in arrivals.
- Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado heralded the expansion project this Saturday.
- “We have been joining forces to diversify the market of flights to Liberia, working in collaboration with the airport’s operator and the Guanacaste Chamber of Tourism”, said Maria Amalia Revelo, the Minister of Tourism.
The Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport will offer an additional 4,118 square meters in its boarding rooms and 417 m2 in its main hall, as well as new facilities, including six airline counters, six stores and a carousel in the baggage claim area.
The inauguration and handover of the expansion work from CORIPORT to the State was made official this Saturday, with the visit of the President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado Quesada, as part of the Gira por Guanacaste.
In an official ceremony, the President, along with the Minister of Tourism, Maria Amalia Revelo, local deputies and other authorities, revealed that the new expansion increased its capacity to handle up to 300,000 additional passengers each year.
“The growth of this airport will directly benefit the entire province of Guanacaste. As the operator of the airport, we are committed to constant and proactive improvements that guarantee a unique experience for passengers as they enter and leave the country”, said César Jaramillo, General Manager of CORIPORT, the Liberia airport authority.
“We recognize tourism as an engine of the country’s economy and its multiplier effect for the quality of life of thousands of Costa Ricans”, noted President Alvarado.
For ICT, the project is extremely important because of the high impact that the arrival of more tourists each year has for the province of Guanacaste.
Since this administration took office, the arrival more than four new international flights has been announced. “We have been joining our forces to diversify the market of flights to Liberia, an objective we have been working toward in collaboration with the airport’s operator and the Guanacaste Chamber of Tourism”, said the Minister of Tourism.
The project represents an investment of over $10.3 million by CORIPORT. It follows the creation of the Diplomatic Lounge and the remodeling of the logistics center and the solid waste management area.
